Description
Dexamethasone is a potent synthetic fluorinated glucocorticoid with strong anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-toxic and anti-shock effects. It inhibits inflammatory mediators and immune responses, with minimal mineralocorticoid activity and long duration of action.
Indications
Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis, drug allergy, angioedema)
Autoimmune diseases: rheumatoid arthritis, lupus erythematosus
Shock: septic shock, anaphylactic shock, traumatic shock
Cerebral edema (tumor, trauma, surgery)
Severe skin diseases, acute exacerbations of asthma
Adjunctive antiemetic for chemotherapy
Adrenal insufficiency
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light.
Do not freeze.
Keep out of reach of children.
Warning
Prescription drug for intramuscular / intravenous use only.
Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to dexamethasone, systemic fungal infection, peptic ulcer bleeding.
Prolonged use may cause Cushing’s syndrome, osteoporosis, elevated blood glucose, increased infection risk.
Do not stop abruptly after long-term use.
Use with caution in hypertension, diabetes, psychiatric disorders, infections.
